In 2009 experienced director and gold medal quartet singer Lesley Carson and her award-winning dream team met to discuss the creation of a vibrant and exciting new choir!
Lesley, instrumental in the creation of two other well known choirs in the area, and described as a “charismatic and inspirational director” is passionate about enabling people to embrace to embrace singing and enlisting the help of 7 talented vocal role models and an inspiring performance team, we advertised for like-minded ladies and Affinity was born!

Four months later, Affinity ambitiously entered The North Wales Choral Festival and won the barbershop class, giving us an automatic entry into the prestigious International Eisteddfod in Llangollen, Wales. We competed against some the best known barbershop choirs and were thrilled to win the class. On our first birthday we had the honour of taking part in the “Choir of the World” in the company of four world class choirs… how good is that?!!

Affinity continues its journey through the ups and downs of building a friendly, diverse and enabling choir and we are willing to embrace very different experiences. We’ve sung for audiences in stately homes, festivals, care homes, memorably a swimming pool in Spain, and at inspirational events like the Midland hotel for The Forever Manchester charity and lately The One VOICE Manchester Together event on the anniversary of the Manchester bombings. We’ve stayed in castles, thatched inns and striven for excellence in competitions in the UK, Ireland and Spain. Affinity encourages individuals, quartets and ensembles within the group to aspire to be the best they can, and offers coaching from our gold medallist team.  We run singing days, workshops and support groups and have our own youth initiatives the  Affinity Young Stars.

As well as competing, Affinity like to support local charities, especially Beechwood Cancer Care, who we have collaborated with forming the Beechwood Cancer Care Choir, which Lesley directs. Affinity are  very much at the heart of the local community.

Lesley wanted to retire in 2017 and a plan of succession (“to find a like minded  younger model” as she put it!) was conceived. In July, after a very successful Eisteddfod, Lesley and the  music team were thrilled to announce the appointment of the extremely talented singer, director, vocal coach and three-time UK gold medal quartet champion, Mr. Andrew Walker as our new director and Affinity continues to thrive and flourish under his skilled direction.

Over the years there have been many quartets from Affinity who have competed and we are lucky enough to still have three gold medal winning singers on our risers from Tone-Acity, 2008 SAI Region 31 Quartet Champions and LABBS 2016 Quartet Champions.
